The project began with extensive demolition of the library’s attached components, including stairs, electrical, plumbing, and insulation systems, followed by the removal of the concrete footing around the building in preparation for lifting. RamJack was brought in to elevate the building using cribbing towers and steel beams installed beneath the structure. After securing the building with temporary wire and positioning hydraulic jacks under the beams, the team gradually lifted the building to a height of 18 inches over several days, while Fasone monitored the structure for damage.
With the building suspended, new foundations were excavated and prepared, including trenching, cutting tree roots, and making space for block walls and drainage. Rebar was installed, footings were poured, and CMU block walls were constructed. Waterproofing and drainage systems were also installed. Simultaneously, new floor joists, beams, and insulation were added in the crawlspace. Once the foundation was complete, the building was lowered into place and secured with new posts, and plumbing and electrical systems were reconnected.
Fasone also prepared the parking lot and ADA ramp area, demolished asphalt, and began roof demolition on the west side of the building. Drainage systems with perforated pipes and waterproofing measures were completed around the foundation. The building is now securely placed on the new foundation, with final preparations underway, including shimming floor joists, site cleanup, and a roof mock-up for park approval. The project is progressing toward its final phases.
